It is always fantastic when people or a series get nominated for TV industry awards. Over the years, One Tribe has had the thrill of being nominated for and occasionally winning a number of awards - both for the RTS (Royal Television Society) and BAFTA (British Film and Television Awards) for series, documentaries, production and on-screen talent.
Of course, television is a business that absolutely relies on teamwork and while there is indeed “no I in TEAM”, every now and then it’s good to give a shout-out to individuals who have done particularly well.
On Friday 12th April, One Tribe attended the RTS Wales awards in Cardiff. This year, we had three people nominated for awards who all began their TV careers at One Tribe. Daisy Brown started with us as a junior researcher in our development team, her degree in history and her writing ability meant she quickly showed her star potential. This year, having moved to the BBC, she was nominated for the RTS Raising Star award. Next, Jonathan Aiken who joined us straight from Kingswood School in Bath. Jonathan has always been obsessed with cameras and kit and he quickly moved up from a runner to camera assistant and camera operator. One of his other obsessions is the iconic series Doctor Who, for which he was nominated under the RTS Factual category for directing and shooting Doctor Who Unleashed (a behind the scenes series), working for independent agency Bright Branch Media Ltd.
Finally, there’s Francesca Barbieri who is still very much working for One Tribe and won the RTS Wales award for best Production Manager. Over the last six years, she has had an almost meteoric rise to fame in the area of production management. Fran was always one to watch - she studied a Performance and Media degree at the University of South Wales and was then picked for the prestigious Edinburgh Talent Scheme, part of the Edinburgh International TV Festival. She joined One Tribe as a runner on our BBC Wales series Dirty Vegan, before quickly moving up through the ranks. Fran is now production manager across the company - looking after both our Chepstow and Bath offices.
And now, watch this space - this weekend One Tribe will be attending the RTS West Awards, where our very own Singing Lee is nominated for the Rising Star award. Singing was born in Taiwan and travelled to the UK to study a degree in fashion. She joined One Tribe as a production team assistant to work on our landmark series In The Footsteps of Marco Polo and has now been promoted to Production Co-ordinator across a range of productions - currently working on The ONE Show. Singing will be against stiff competition this weekend, but whatever happens, just like Daisy, Jonathan and Fran, she is already a winner as a nominee… but who knows? We may have two RTS winners in the One Tribe fold!
