Tom Chapman
Barber - Author - Public Speaker - Educator
Tom Chapman may in fact be the busiest Barber in the World. After a decade working at Toni & Guy he founded his own hair studio in 2011 – Tom Chapman Hair Design, in his hometown of Torquay. He quickly realised that from inside the safe environment of his barbershop there was an opportunity to not only look after what’s on his customers heads, but also what’s inside their heads too. So in 2015 he founded The Lions Barber Collective, which is a group of international Barbers, that educate and raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention. This life saving collective have grown into a huge global network, that trains Barbers in BarberTalk training, giving other Barbers the skills to listen and help customers with their mental health and suicide prevention. Leading this groundbreaking collective has led Tom to giving TEDx Talks and gaining coverage on National and International Television and Radio. All spreading the incredible story of The Lions Collective, saving lives along the way. And if that wasn’t enough, he has even found time to film an Amazon Prime Documentary.
Tom is an award winning barber, author, public speaker and life saver. He dived into the world of barbering when he joined Salon Giants Toni & Guy in 2001 where he learnt the tools of the trade as well as mastering all things hair. Whilst running his own studio he’s been all over the world competing in various barber competitions as well as reaching the finals of Wahl Barber of the Year.
The Collective started as a group of international barbers that wanted to raise awareness for suicide prevention, from within the safe environment of the barber shop, where men found it a safe place to talk. But with Tom being the driving force behind it, it’s developed to become much more. They even created bespoke BarberTalk training to teach Barbers to RECOGNISE, ASK, LISTEN and HELP and continue to save lives. Off the back of this he’s been invited to deliver talks all over the globe. From TEDx talks to features on the BBC, Channel 4, FOX News (USA) Virgin Radio, TalkSport and multiple appearances in national and international press.
